Today, we'll embark on our journey in the very early morning, departing from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. Our departure will be between 04:30 and 05:00 AM approximately, with the exact time depending on the season.
Our adventure begins as we ascend toward the Tatio Geysers, recognized as the highest geothermal field in the world, situated at an altitude of 4200 meters above sea level. This expansive area boasts around 80 active geysers.
We'll arrive at the Tatio Geysers at dawn, a prime time to witness the columns of steam and hot water rising from the Earth. During this magical hour, you'll have the chance to explore the geysers, thermal pools, and other fascinating geothermal formations. It's a captivating scene as the hot water ascends into the air, creating a sight reminiscent of fumaroles amidst a lunar-like landscape.
Here, we'll savor a delicious hot breakfast while enjoying the view of the steam fumaroles, which can reach impressive heights of up to 10 meters.
For the more adventurous, this is your moment to take a dip in the natural hot springs of Tatio. It's a one-of-a-kind experience to unwind and appreciate the natural surroundings while bathing in a thermal pool with an average temperature of 36°C.
Afterward, we'll commence our return journey to San Pedro de Atacama. On the way back, we'll stop at the quaint town of Machuca, which comprises about 20 houses, each powered by solar panels. Here, you can indulge in local delicacies like llama meat anticucho or goat cheese empanadas, and explore the single street that leads to its historic church.
Following our stroll through Machuca, we will head back to the center of San Pedro, where we will drop you off near the municipal parking lot. From there, you can choose to explore the town further, enjoy lunch, or return to your hotel on your own. If you prefer, we can also drop you off at your hotel for a private return.
