Today, we'll depart from our hotel around 2:00 p.m. en route to the Cejar Lagoon, situated roughly 20 km from San Pedro de Atacama, at an elevation of approximately 2,600 meters above sea level.
This turquoise lagoon is encircled by salt formations, creating a breathtaking scene where the sky and mountains blend seamlessly.
The Cejar Lagoon is renowned for its high salt concentration, akin to the Dead Sea in Israel, which allows visitors to effortlessly float due to the water's high density.
Surrounded by a distinctive natural setting, including mountains and salt dunes, it offers a surreal landscape. Visitors can enjoy a swim in the lagoon, experiencing the unique sensation of floating, but we advise against submerging your head due to the high salt content.
The Cejar Lagoon is a favored location for bird watching and photography, especially at sunset when the sun's reflection creates a stunning view on the lagoon's surface.
Additionally, today we'll explore two more sites, part of the unique landscapes of the Atacama Desert.
The Ojos del Salar are two freshwater wells located nearby. They are known as "Eyes" due to being natural water sources emerging from the desert floor, creating small pools of fresh water. They serve as an oasis in the middle of the desert, contrasting starkly with the salinity of the Cejar Lagoon.
Here, we can enjoy the Ojos del Salar and take a refreshing bath in the cool, crystalline waters surrounded by the arid environment.
The last destination we will visit today is the Laguna Tebenquiche, a saltwater lagoon situated in the heart of the Salar de Atacama. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the Andes.
The lagoon is home to a variety of birds, such as flamingos, frequently spotted here foraging for food. We'll observe their elegance and colorful plumage in their natural habitat, a truly unique experience.
One of the most magical moments will be witnessing a stunning sunset over these lagoons, accompanied by a delightful and complete cocktail as we watch the sky's colors reflect on the lagoon's surface.
After this experience, we'll return to the center of San Pedro, dropping you off near the municipal parking area. From there, you can explore the town or head back to your hotel on your own. If you prefer a private service, we can drop you off at the hotel where you were picked up.
